FAQ

Appointment Information

Appointments should be taken a minimum of one month prior to the event date, but the earlier the better. Please allow one hour for the consultation.

At the consultation, what we require is as much detail as possible about your budget, your theme, your vision for your cake. We have pictures in our showroom of our previous creations, but new ideas are certainly welcome, and even preferred.

If you would like to include a cake tasting during the consultation, please mention it beforehand as all our cakes are freshly prepared, so we do not normally have any samples on hand. Also, please notify us in advance of the number of guests in your party that will be present at the consultation so we can be sure to have servings ready for everyone.

If you need a last-minute cake, we might be able to accommodate you depending on the season, so please call us to check availability.

If you are more than 15 minutes late, we ask that you call as soon as possible to reschedule the appointment.

There will be a non-refundable consultation fee of $25, payable upon arrival at your first appointment, which will be deducted from the cost of the cake, should you decide to place the order with us.

Within a week of placing the order, a 50% deposit will be required to secure your date. The balance is due two weeks prior to your event.

There will be a fully refundable deposit of $30 cash required for the cost of the cake board, which will be refunded once the board is returned in good condition within two weeks of the event.

Please note that there will be no quotes given by any means other than by consultation.

Last, but not least, please be sure to mention if there are ingredients that should be omitted for allergy purposes.

Courses

a) Course prices include materials and supplies. Tools are available for your use in the classroom.

b) All recipes and patterns required for the course will be provided by us.

c) Registration must be completed one week ahead of each course at the latest, by which time payment in full must have been received. Availability cannot be guaranteed for last-minute registrants.

d) A deposit of 50% is required for registration. Money Orders, Certified Cheques, Gift Certificates, Cash (at the store only), online payment via Interac E-mail transfer or PayPal payment
through our website (add 3% for the latter) are all accepted.

e) Deposits must be received with your registration form to guarantee your place at the course.

f) If for any reason you have to cancel a course, your deposit for the course will be retained. If you
wish to transfer your deposit to another course, you may do so within one year at no extra charge and the full amount of the deposit will be applied.

g) Missed classes cannot be credited or made up. Please make sure that you are able to attend and
complete all sessions.

h) The administration reserves the right to cancel any course due to insufficient registration or for
any other reason. In such a case, all deposits will be refunded fully.

j) For each student that you refer to attend one of our courses, you will get a $25 discount on your course price when the referred student pays in full.

Payment Methods

We accept cash, cheque, Interac email transfers for those who have access to it through online banking with their financial institutions, and credit card payments made through PayPal (add 3%).

If you are planning on paying with a La Gâterie gift certificate, you must notify us when taking your appointment.


Delivery

Deliveries within the Greater Montreal Area are $50. Deliveries are available outside of the city, but the charge will be determined according to the location.

If the location requires a special parking permit to be able to deliver the cake, please be sure to organize that ahead of time to ensure prompt delivery.

Special Needs

We cater to a diverse clientele, so we are able to provide special types of cakes by request (ie vegan cakes, nut-free cakes, gluten-free cakes, etc.). Please ask us for more details.

Cake and Serving Size Information

Cakes start at $6 per serving, the average being $10 per serving.

We are here to offer you custom creations based on your budget and ideas, so please have realistic expectations. Sometimes a smaller cake may take longer to create than a larger one, and therefore will be priced accordingly. Rest assured that we will make every effort to work within your budget. The final cost will be reflected by the amount of labour that will be required to complete your very own masterpiece.

The charts below can help give you an idea of the number of tiers that you will need to feed your guests. The number of servings is based on an average serving size, the average serving size being approximately four fingers wide by 2 fingers deep and 4.5” tall.
